Ms Rosalinde van der Vlies Keynote title: Horizon Europe R&I for ensuring climate-neutral aviation by 2050: a dream or a reality? |
Ms Rosalinde van der Vlies, is the Director of the Clean Planet Directorate in the European Commission’s, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation. Before her appointment as Director, Ms van der Vlies was the Head of Coordination & Interinstitutional Relations Unit, and acting Head of Communication & Citizens Unit.
Previously she held positions in Directorate-General Environment, Directorate-General Justice and Home Affairs, and in the private office of Janez Potočnik, the European Commissioner for the environment. Before joining the European Commission, she worked as a competition lawyer in an international law firm in Brussels and was a part-time teacher at the Catholic University in Brussels.

Jane Amilhat who took over the management of unit C3 (low emission future industries) in DG RTD is coming from DG ENER where she was 3 years Deputy Head of Unit in charge of Energy infrastructures and Regional cooperation. Jane Amilhat worked in the private sector after her engineer/economist study in France and Germany. She started her career in the industrial/energy sector (Danone, Gaz de France/Engie, RWE Trading). She joined the European Commission in DG ENV (CLIMA now) from 2006 until 2008 where she was responsible for international climate change negotiations and sectorial climate policies. She has been dealing with Energy and industrial issues when she started at DG TRADE at the end of 2008. She was responsible for Russia and the Eastern Partnership but also the Western Balkans and Switzerland when she became Deputy Head of Unit at DG TRADE in 2014.

Mr. Bart de Vries Keynote title: Digital transformation in aviation |
Bart de Vries is Captain on Boeing 777 & 787 aircraft at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Over the last 15 years he has held various management positions within KLM in addition to his flying duties. Currently Bart is active as Managing Director of the Flight Academy of the KLM group and acts as adviser to the COO and Board of KLM on strategic operational matters. In this capacity he is vice-chair of ACARE representing the end-users of the civil aviation eco-system.
After joining KLM as a pilot Bart started his career in various projects. Thereafter he was appointed as Director of Quality Assurance, followed by being Vice President Operational Safety & QA where he was responsible for flight Safety, Compliance and the Quality program of the KLM Air Operator Certificate. Later he held the position of Vice President of the 737-unit of Flight Operations overseeing the Boeing 737 pilots and operations. In this period Bart played an extensive role in digitizing flight operations where personal Electronic Flight Bags where introduced. Also was he responsible for the successful introduction of mixed fleet flying of the B777 with the B787, a program generating significant cost savings for the company while maintaining a robust level of safety.
Until late 2018 Bart has held the position of Executive Vice President Flight Operations, being member of the KLM Executive Committee. As such he was responsible (nominated person) for the flight operations executed by KLM and for the training and checking of all KLM crew.
Bart de Vries has extensive international experience. He has for several years been a member of the Flight Safety Foundation board of governors and was Chairman of the Technical & Operations Committee of the Association of European Airlines. Within the International Air Transport Association he has fulfilled a variety of roles including membership of the Operations Committee.
In his free time Bart is an active pilot in historic aviation and he regularly takes part in formation flights at air shows.
Mrs Valérie Guénon Keynote title: How to attract more women in aerospace |
Valérie Guénon holds a mechanical engineering degree from Université de Technologie de Compiègne (France) and a Master of Applied Sciences in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of Delaware (USA).
She has been with the Safran Group since 1988, where she held technical and management positions such as materials research scientist, aircraft engines design engineer, Safran Group’s European research programmes manager, Quality VP at Safran Landing Systems, Safran Group’s VP R&T institutional affairs and Director of Safran University.
As part of her R&T activities, she participated in founding the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative in the mid 2000's. In the 2010's, she chaired the ACARE1 working group on Energy and Environment, led the preparation of the ACARE Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, advised the European Commission on transport research and contributed to the French CORAC2.
Since February 2019, she is VP environment policies for Safran Aircraft Engines.
Valérie's two adult children have nicely grown during their mother's career.

Mr. Axel Krein Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking | Executive Director Keynote title: The future is green: the role of Clean Sky to deliver European impactful research |
Since February 2019, Axel Krein is the Executive Director of Clean Sky, the European Public-Private Partnership developing innovative, cutting-edge technology aimed at reducing CO2, gas emissions and noise levels produced by aircraft.
Prior to Clean Sky, Axel’s career started in Airbus in Hamburg in 1992. He held various positions including heading the Cyber Security Program Directorate (September 2014-January 2019); Senior Vice President Research & Technology (2007-2014); Senior Vice President Strategic Development (2004-2007); and Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (2000-2004). Axel holds a Masters in Mechanical Engineering/Aerospace Engineering from the Technical University of Aachen and worked at the university in the field of hypersonic space transportation.
Dr. Marco Protti Leonardo Aircraft Division | VP Advanced Research Keynote title: The future of aviation: the technology challenges ahead |
Marco Protti joined Leonardo Aircraft Division (formerly Aeritalia) in 1987.
He is currently VP of Advanced Research and he has the responsibility to oversee the Division Innovation process including research projects portfolio definition as well as the industrial exploitation of the developed technologies and management of the national and International research collaboration network.
In the past 30 years he has matured a large experience in managing National and International research projects acting as Technical Project coordinator and Program Manager.
Since 2014 is member of the Governing Board of the Clean Sky JU where he acts as deputy chairman.
He is the chairman of ACARE Italy, member of the General Assembly of ACARE, of the ASD R&T Commission, of the European Materials Modelling Council - Industrial Advisory Board (EMMC-IAB), of the Technical Committee of the Italian Aerospace Technology Cluster.
He has been also member of the SESAR JU Administrative Board.

Dr. Angela Vozella Keynote title: Evolution through Space |
Angela Vozella, Ph. D ICT, Complex Systems & Environment. Head of Reliability Availability Maintainability Safety & Security (R.A.M.S.&S.) Department.
With 30 years professional experience in the system reliability engineering for safety critical application (On-board aircraft systems and equipment, software and hardware) she has been an active participant in many projects funded by the European Commission and project manager of collaborative projects in space and transport.
In CIRA Unmanned Space Vehicle project she has led the team in charge of performing verification and validation activities for on-board software and for Safety Analysis to obtain the Permit to Fly. For VEGA launcher she has been leading the CIRA team in charge of performing RAMS analysis for 20 years.
Acting as a member of The European Technology Platform on Industrial Safety, as a European Expert for Critical Infrastructures, belonging to the Program Committee of Conquest International Conference on Quality Engineering in Software Technology, Program Committee member for International Journal of Critical Computer-Based Systems (IJCCBS) by Inderscience Publishers, Software Testing Engineer (STQB certification).
